The Odisha government has launched Mahaprayan Yojana for free transportation of dead bodies from Government hospitals to the residences of the deceased across the state. Initially, the service would be made available at 30 district headquarters hospitals (DHH), three Government-run medical colleges and hospitals, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics, Cuttack known as Sishu Bhawan, Acharya Harihar Cancer Research Centre (AHCRC), city-based Capital Hospital and Rourkela Government Hospital. A total of 40 vehicles will be procured for the purpose across the State. While one vehicle each will be provided to all the DHHs, two vehicles each will be provided to three Government-run medical colleges and hospitals. The scheme would be implemented with financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) and would be managed by the District Red Cross Societies.

Aahaar program was launched on 1st April 2015 in Odisha. Housing and Urban Development Department is the nodal department to implement the Aahaar program in the State. The objective of the program is to provide cooked hot meals - steamed rice and dalma- to the poor and needy people at the cost of Rs. 5/- at places of public congregations in the urban areas. The program was piloted in five Municipal Corporations viz. Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela with 21 Aahaar centres. Shri Naveen Patnaik, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha dedicated 100 Aahaar centres to the poor and needy people of the State on 14th April 2016. Currently 110 centres are operational across 30 districts of Odisha covering 73 towns. Aahaar outlets are mostly opened at hospitals and near bus- stands, railway stations, Courts, Collectorates, etc.

To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put focus on sanitation, the Prime Minister of India launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on 2nd October, 2014. The Mission Coordinator for SBM is Secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) with two Sub-Missions, the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). Together, they aim to achieve Swachh Bharat by 2019, as a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Birth Anniversary. In Rural India, this would mean improving the levels of cleanliness through Solid and Liquid Waste Management activities and making villages Open Defecation Free (ODF), clean and sanitised.

The Mission will be implemented during 2015-2022 and will provide central assistance to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and other implementing agencies through States/UTs for: 1. In-situ Rehabilitation of existing slum dwellers using land as a resource through private participation 2. Credit Linked Subsidy 3. Affordable Housing in Partnership 4. Subsidy for Beneficiary-led individual house construction/enhancement. Credit linked subsidy component will be implemented as a Central Sector Scheme while other three components will be implemented as Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS).
